Although it’s a classic design, it still bears Pierre Paulin’s imprint. In 1962, when he reinterpreted Florence Knoll’s sofa 1954, he softened the curves and decreased the amount of quilting. He also eliminated the metal frame, which had emphasized the whole base perimeter, while keeping only the four feet. In short, he designed a new sofa–one that’s domestic, sensual, and refined. With a final elegant touch, he traces the chrome-plated steel feet inside the armrests, both at the front and the back. An elegant result, whether viewed from the front or the back, this integration of the feet inside the armrests calls for stitching and upholstering of the highest quality to complete the presentation. CONSTRUCTION Three-layer plywood crossed strip panels, reinforced by a soldered steel seat frame lined with polyether foam. The feet/ armrests have visible square steel inserts finished in brilliant chrome or black chrome. COMFORT Individual Pullmaflex steel sprung suspension seating. Seat cushions in high resilience polyurethane Bultex foam multi-density (dominant 38 kg/m3 – 3.6 kPa), clad with a under-covering of 300g/m² polyester batting. Back cushions in high resilience polyurethane Bultex foam multi-density (dominant 25 kg/m3 – 1.6 kPa), clad with a under-covering of 300g/m² polyester batting. SEWING / SLIP-COVER Baguette stitching on the frame and armrests. Seat cushions tufted with 4 buttons, back cushions finished with 2 buttons. The seat and back cushions are accented with piping.
